I knew at some point, June was going to be a really good helper. She loves to participate with household chores and wants to be around people. Up to this point, her helping wasn't really helpful. When she would help with dishes, she would just play in the sink and end up dumping water on the floor. When it was time to clean up toys, the toys always ended up being too distracting and I would spend more time encouraging her to clean up than she would actually clean. But to quote my favorite Dr. Seuss book, "The time has come, the time is NOW!" June is actually helpful!
The last few days she has been helping Karl fix the leg of the keyboard up at church. We had rented it out for a wedding a few weeks ago and then when I went to pull it out of the closet, the foot had come off and the particle board was all busted. Darn. So June and Dad have traveled to Menards a couple times looking for the right pieces and getting everything all set. She loves to help and insists on carrying big heavy pieces of wood all through the store. When Karl mentioned he was going to finish the project this afternoon, she nearly had a conniption fit from the excitement. When she comes home she's so quick to tell me all about the things she's done.
When it comes to chores, she's beginning to really be helpful as well. When I wash dishes she can pull her stool over and rinse them for me. She knows enough to only help rinse the plastic and non-breakable dishes, and avoids knives altogether. When we're cleaning, she manages to be somewhat self-motivated (unless she's tired and then there's no helping at all).
The next big item on the helping list would be HELPING YOUR BROTHER LEARN TO SHARE, because her currently strategy of yelling "MINE" every time he yells "MINE" is not working for some reason or another.
