Ruben's choice

I've never really considered Ruben a daddy's boy. He loves Karl and runs to him when he gets home, but his last choice is always mom, especially at bedtime. However, Ruben has started to show us just how much he loves men. He's spent entire church services saying, "dadadadada" when Karl's preaching. He'll keep asking to be picked up and then point with pride at his dad up front. Only occasionally does he escape the pew and make a run for the front. When Kory and Cara come to visit for a weekend, Kory was the new favorite. When we all went to Funtown to play, it was Kory who was recruited to be Ruben's bouncing buddy. Matt Schmitzer has always been a favorite,  but it has escalated. Now Ruben wants to sit with Matt during church services because Matt sits at the sound board and lets Ruben move the sliders and push buttons. When Matt helps with communion, Ruben frantically calls his name from the front pew and waves. Two weeks ago Wednesday, Ruben got to sit with Matt during the whole Lenten service including the longest children's sermon ever. Ruben spent most of the time looking up at Matt and smiling or laying his head on Matt's shoulder. He kind of stole the show. Papa has always been Ruben's favorite too. WHen Nana and Papa show up, Ruben neatly pushes Nana to the side so he can more clearly see Papa. Did you know that a good way to keep Ruben quiet during church is to have him say "Papa" over and over again because he has yet to figure out how to vocalize the "p" sound so it comes out as a whisper? Matt, Kory, Papa and Karl...now those are some great role models for our son to grow up with.
